IDENTIFICATION FOR NOTARIZATION
California civil code lists acceptable forms of identification for the notarization process as follows:
- ID Card or Drivers License issued by the DMV within 5 years CA. or another state
- United States Passport
- Military ID
- Employee ID Card issued by an agency of the state of California
- Consular Card country of citizenship - must have 5 identifying criteria
- Passport issued by country of citizenship
- ID issued by a recognized tribal government
- Drivers License issued by Canada or Mexico
- Inmate ID Card issued by Sheriff's office
TYPES OF NOTARIAL ACTS
All notarial acts require that you meet with the Notary and provide one of the state of California approved identification.
Jurat:
This is a sworn statement and requires an oath or affirmation to complete this notarial act.
- It must be signed in front of the Notary with an oath or affirmation.
**If you would like the notary statement block to be on the same page as your document, you will need to add it to your document. It is required by to Secretary of State to be in the following format: California Jurat
Acknowledgement:
Although it is always preferable to sign in the Notary's presence, this type of notarial act can be signed prior to the appointment and "acknowledged" to the Notary Public that, that it is your signature on the document. *The signer is still required to personally appear before the Notary and to provide CA state approved identification, before the document can be notarized.
**If you would like the notary portion on the same page as you document contents, it will need to be in the following format: California Acknowledgement
